Chandigarh is a unique Union Territory of India. It is the only city which is the capital of two States (Punjab and Haryana) simultaneously. It is also the first planned city in the country with a high standard of civic amenities. As a result, the city is a home to fair amount of business and commercial activity. This beautiful city is designed by the famous French Architect, Le Carbusier and is known for its architecture and landscaping. A harmonious blend of buildings, well wooded forests, conspicuous tree species, leisure valley, gardens and such other green belts are the fascinating features of the city.
The total land area of the city is 114 sq km and its geographical location is 30 degree 44' 14" North latitude and 76 degree 47' 14" East longitude. The city lies at an altitude varying from 304.8 to 365.76 meters above sea level. It is located in the foothills of the Shivalik hill ranges in the north. It is occupied by Kandi (Bhabhar) in the north east and Sirowal (Tarai) and alluvial plains in the remaining part.
