Haryana, with a total land area of 44,212 sq km,
lies in the Northern part of India. It is situated between 27 degree 37'
to 30 degree 35' North Latitude and 74 degree 28' to 77 degree 36' East
Longitude. It is bounded by Uttar Pradesh on the east; Punjab on the west;
Himachal Pradesh on the north; and Rajasthan on the south. It is bordering
the National Capital Territory of Delhi from the three sides, and thus
becoming a preferred destination for investors the world over. About forty
per cent of the National Capital Region (NCR) falls in Haryana State and
thirty per cent of the State is notified NCR. The altitude of Haryana
varies between 700 ft to 900 ft above the sea level.
Chandigarh, being the capital of Haryana, is the first
planned city in the country with a high standard of civic amenities. It
is also a home to fair amount of business and commercial activity. In
addition, Haryana's close contact with Delhi, which is the largest commercial
centre in northern India, provides numerous investment opportunities in
the various sectors of the State economy. Haryana has a sound industrial
and infrastructural base, offering excellent locations to entrepreneurs
for setting up their industrial units. It offers a rich reservoir of skilled,
motivated and relatively low-cost manpower, with harmonious and peace-loving
industrial relations scenario. It is also one of the first few States
with the highest per capita income in the country. As a result, it has
been able to attract sizable investment from multinational companies,
large business houses, foreign investors, non-residents Indians and small
scale entrepreneurs.
Due to its strategic location, Haryana has been recognised
as a business-friendly State. Panipat, Rohtak, Gurgaon, Faridabad and
Sonepat have a special potential for accelerated socio-economic development.
Major export items from State are software, handloom products, scientific
instruments, garments, automobiles and automotive components, electrical
appliances, rice, pickels, etc. Besides, land and water are the important
resources of the State, making Haryana an agriculturally rich State. Large
number of food grains and horticultural crops are produced, by using available
irrigation facilities.
