The State of Haryana has impressive infrastructure facilities
in terms of well-developed roadways, railways and airways network; reliable
telecommunication services; and an efficient power supply system. All
such services have made the State an investor-friendly destination. Accordingly,
the Government of Haryana has undertaken several infrastructural projects,
with a view to encourage capital flow into the State as well as increase
the productivity level of the various sectors of the economy.
Roadways
Haryana has an excellent network of road transport. All
villages in the State are well connected with metalled roads. The length
of roads in the State is more than 31,901 km. There are around 11 National
Highways in the State, some of which are:-
- National Highway No.1, passes through Haryana from Delhi
to Ambala, linking Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir
- National Highway No.2 (Delhi-Mathura Road), passes through
Faridabad, linking vast areas to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, etc.
right up to Mumbai
- National Highway No.8 (Delhi-Jaipur Highway), passes
through prestigious industrial estate Gurgaon, Industrial Model Township
Manesar, and Growth Centre Bawal, linking vast areas right upto Ahemdabad
and Mumbai
- National Highway No.10 passes through Haryana from Delhi
to Dabwali etc.
Railways
Haryana is well connected on the rail network. Ambala, Panipat
and Jakhal are important railway stations. There is also a railway workshop
at Jagadhari. The main railway routes passing through Haryana are:- Amritsar-Delhi;
Rewari-Ahamdabad; Bhiwani-Rohtak-Delhi; Ambala-Ferozepur;
Delhi-Ferozepur; Kalka-Jodhpur; Kalka-Hawrah; Amritsar-Hawrah; Delhi-Shimla;
etc. However, a proposal is underway to provide rail corridor connecting
towns around Delhi, linking the major towns of Haryana like Faridabad,
Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh, Kundli etc. Similarly, it is proposed to provide
rapid mass transportation system between Delhi and these towns.
Aviation
Haryana is well-linked to rest of the country through air
services. There are civil aerodromes at Pinjore, Karnal, Hisar, Bhiwani
and Narnaul. Besides, airports in Punjab, Delhi and Chandigarh are the
nearest airports.
Power
Haryana became the first State in the country to achieve
100 per cent rural electrification in 1970. Presently, it has a total
installed contracted generation capacity of 4039 MW, including 1587.4
from own generating stations; 937.50 MW from jointly-owned projects; and
1514 MW as share in central/ private power projects.
Telecom
Haryana has a state-wide network of efficient telecommunication
facilities. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and most of the leading
private sector players such as Reliance Infocom, Tata Teleservices, Bharti
Telecom, Idea and Hutchison Essar have operations in the State.
