Mizoram is one of the youngest States in the Indian union. It consists of steep hill ranges, separated from one another by narrow valleys. The rivers, peaks, plains and the lakes are the treasures of Mizoram. It is a storehouse of natural beauty with an endless variety of landscape, hilly terrains, meandering streams, deep gorges as well as rich wealth of flora and fauna. The Mizo society is close-knit and homogeneous in terms of religion, culture and language, which lends strength to the growth and development of their community.
The land area of Mizoram is 21,087 sq km and is lying between 21.58 degree to 24.35 degree North Latitudes and 92.15 degree to 93.29 degree East Longitudes. The State shares national borders with Tripura, Assam and Manipur. It occupies an area of great strategic importance in the north-eastern corner of India, as it shares a long international boundary with Myanmar (on the east) and Bangladesh (on the west). This provides it a unique and distinct advantage of developing international trade with the two Asian countries.
Mizoram is predominantly an agrarian State. It also has the distinction of having the second highest literacy rate in the country. Its human resource consisting of hardworking, dynamic and enterprising people, is an invaluable asset to the State. Besides, there exist numerous investment opportunities in the bamboo; agro-horticulture; tourism and information technology sectors. In order to attract investors, particularly in the above sectors, for ensuring the overall development of the State, the Government of Mizoram has taken several policy measures and incentives.
