Punjab, the smiling soul of India, is famous for its hard working, energetic, enthusiastic and adventurous people. It is a highly fertile land endowed with five rivers and yellow fields. Culturally, it is a rich State divided into three regions, namely, Malwa, Majha and Doaba. It has attained an eminent place in performing and visual arts as well as literature, including music, dance, drama, poetry, paintings, etc. This has created a sense of pride in the cultural heritage of the State.
The total area of Punjab is 50,362 sq km, which is 1.54 % of the country’s total geographical land. Punjab is situated in the north-western corner of the country, between 29’30’’ North to 32’32’’ North latitude and 73’55 East to 76’50 East longitude. It is bound on the west by Pakistan; on the north by Jammu and Kashmir; on the north-east by Himachal Pradesh; and on the south by Haryana and Rajasthan.
Punjab is a land of numerous opportunities which are embedded in its advantageous position. These include:-
- Simple and responsive administrative set-up;
- Educated and professional work force with abundance of skilled workers;
- Strong agricultural and industrial base;
- Efficient infrastructural set up including transportation, telecommunication, stable and cheap power;
- Well developed export base;
- High per capita income providing a good consumer market, etc.
Also, the Government of Punjab has undertaken several policy measures and initiatives in order to attract investment into the various sectors of the State. All these provide a peaceful and congenial environment for an investor to set up his/ her industrial unit in the State. This is reflected in Punjab's rapid achievements in the field of agriculture, industry and services, education, social welfare and rural upliftment. Hence, today, this border State is one of the most prosperous units of the country with an excellent quality of life.
